| Soy Wax
Q. What is Soy wax?
A. Soy is made from hydrogenated soy bean oil and first appeared in 1991.
The actual hydrogenation techniques are closely guarded secrets. It was
Michael Richards who, when looking for a cheaper alternative to beeswax,
experimented with various plant oils to produce a natural wax candle,
developed soy wax. In 1995 the body shop was the first commercial chain
to offer soy candles.
Q. Why is Soy wax better than paraffin wax?
A. Soy wax is a sustainable resource that burns cleanly, with no sooty
petrochemical residue getting into your atmosphere. It is excellent for
throwing the fragrance of the essential oils, melts at much lower temperatures
than paraffin wax and can be washed away with hot soapy water.
Q. Are soy wax candles OK for vegans?
A. Yes. There are no animal products in any of our products. They are
all animal and cruelty free.
Q. What about the rainforests.
A. Soy wax is produced by soybeans grown on American farms and the Americans
are very proud of their sustainable soy bean production. The real problem
ingredient for ainforests in indonsesia and Brazil is Palm oil.
Q. Does Soy wax last longer than paraffin wax?
A. Yes . On average soy wax will burn last about 30% longer than paraffin
wax products. Wicks should be trimmed to aapprox 5mm for maximum burn
time.
Q. Why do you use essential oils
to fragrance your candles?
A. Essential oils are natural oils extracted form steam distillation or
cold pressing. They retain all the potency of the real plant. Their aromas
are powerful yet delicate. No whiff of air freshener here.
Q. Why don't you have pineapple,
and bubblegum fragrance candles?
A. These types of fragrances are completely artificial and do no comply
with our ethos of natural products. They also have no real therapeutic
value.
Q. Where does Soy wax come from?
A. Our soy wax is imported from America normally Iowa or Indiana, by British
Wax and distributed to various wholesale companies throughout the UK
